The Demons attack the event, killing Jefferson and many other attendees. Peter witnesses Martin Li transforming into their leader, Mister Negative, but is knocked unconscious before he can intervene. Following the attack, Norman hires Silver Sablinova and Sable International to supplant the police.
Especially with the added personal connection between Spider-Man and Venom, really highlighting Venom as the dark mirror of Peter. Hopes were high when the teasers at the end of both Spider-Man and Miles Morales teased the arrival of Venom. And, thankfully, it’s the only part of the story they actually did well. Using it to tell a tragic tale of two friends, instead of the more standard Eddie Brock story. Insomniac easily could have simply reused the map from Spider-Man and Miles Morales.

Following the conclusions of their respective solo adventures they’re now a tight-knit crime-fighting duo, but both are predictably still struggling to juggle their superhero callings with their personal responsibilities. It’s hard not to feel, though, that Peter’s inability to hold down a job or progress his relationship with MJ feels a little higher stakes than Miles… procrastinating over his college application? Though not wildly different mechanically (they’re separated mostly by a different set of combat powers), the two do feel impressively different, largely thanks to top notch animation work and a commendable attention to detail. How much this dual protagonist feature actually adds to the game is a little questionable I think, but the execution is undeniably slick. All of this contributes to fighting back against crime in each district of New York, a city now twice the size of what we’ve seen before including the leafy residential roads of Queens and the bustling borough of Brooklyn. There are 14 unique districts, each with its own set of objectives to complete before you can unlock fast travel to that part of the map.
When Mister Negative threatens to release a deadly virus, Spider-Man must confront him and protect the city while dealing with the personal problems of his civilian persona, Peter Parker. Much like Marvel’s Spider-Man, the sequel also has a slow, but steady build-up, as the game begins with an action segment where players have to save Manhattan from the Sandman. This portion of the game later becomes the inspiration for one of the title’s most expansive collectibles, as players later on can find Marko’s Memories scattered throughout the city. The boss fight against the Sandman sets the tone for the game’s scale, as each boss fight feels like a larger-than-life struggle with high stakes for the main characters. Though that may sound like a typical case of sequel syndrome (and it perhaps is to an extent), it’s also an ingenious way to reflect its heroes’ mental space. Both Spider-Men are struggling to hold an entire city up on their shoulders; their responsibilities pull them in every direction like a Symbiote’s tendrils.
Peter is forced to choose between using the limited cure to save May from her imminent death or synthesizing a vaccine for the infected masses; he decides to save everyone. Before she dies, May reveals that she knows he is Spider-Man and is proud of him. Following the capture of Wilson Fisk by Spider-Man, a masked gang known as the Inner Demons begins seizing Fisk’s illicit assets. Mary Jane and Spider-Man learn that the Demons are seeking something called Devil’s Breath. With the aid of Officer Jefferson Davis, Spider-Man thwarts a Demon attack. Jefferson is lauded for his heroism at a re-election event for Mayor Norman Osborn.
With the sequel, Insomniac kicks almost all of the criticisms of the first game off the roof of the Empire State Building and lets us jump headfirst into an adrenaline-fueled superhero adventure that throws fresh gameplay ideas at us. That liveliness is apparent in both the visuals and the motion-captured performances. Even when maniacally whipping through midtown on a spider’s thread, it’s hard not to give into the urge to regularly stop and soak in the glitz of the current gen graphics. In Fidelity mode, the game runs at 4K resolution with full raytracing on display. In layman’s terms, that means sexy clouds and lighting effects reflecting off surfaces in real time. Imagine clinging to a skyscraper’s glass façade and seeing your reflection, and the entire city’s, projected back.

Miles, a student at Brooklyn Visions Academy, sees all of his friends solidifying their plans for college—but he is feeling left out. He’s been so focused on other things; he hasn’t had time to think about the future. There are plenty of directions he could go but trying to pick the ‘right’ one is overwhelming and paralyzing. In the latest adventure in the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe, teenager Miles Morales is adjusting to his new home while following in the footsteps of his mentor, Peter Parker, as a new Spider-Man.
The first game will always be better but this one is still a great game that’s definitely worth playing. Fight against a variety of new and iconic villains, including an original take on the monstrous Venom, the ruthless Kraven the Hunter, the volatile Lizard and many more. Two editions of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be available when it launches on PC on January 30th, including the Standard Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition (DDE). Ray-traced reflections quickly catch your eye in the skyscraper-filled city of Marvel’s New York as you swing along its many glass surfaces. Feel the force of web-swinging with adaptive triggers, while haptic feedback responds to Peter Parker’s new symbiote abilities and Miles Morales’ evolved bio-electric skills. The PlayStation overlay is available for Windows PC players with an account for PlayStation Network to earn PlayStation Trophies and access Friends lists, settings, and player profile.
Since Spider-Man 2 came out in September 2023, Insomniac has released a number of updates for the game, adding New Game+, mission replay, new suits, and more. But fans had hoped that story DLC would give them more of a reason to return to Insomniac’s wonderful recreation of New York that the addition of new features. If you want to check how long it will take you to complete Spider-Man 2, check out the Game length page. There we wrote about the main story, and how much time you will need to spend to complete the game 100% and unlock the platinum trophy.
The swinging and combat will be familiar to long-time fans, but a handful of new abilities have been revealed. Many of these come courtesy of the slimy Symbiote suit, which can extend and grow tentacles to slam enemies into the ground. Again, there are very few gameplay details available about Spider-Man 2’s gameplay, but it’s bringing back the open-world version of New York that made the first game so successful. It’s also expanding to include some of the boroughs that were absent before, and the water around the city will play a larger role. He’s working on his college admissions essay with the help of his Spider-tutor and has finally gotten a hang of the superhero schtick.
